about

I'd just finished this track and was really happy with what I'd got - in fact, although I'd played the bassline pretty well all the way through, I found two bars that really appealed to me for some reason and decided to loop them for the majority of the song - when my son poked his head 'round the studio door and said "Dad...you do realise that's "Vienna", don't you?". Somewhat pwned, I believe is the term. Anyhoo, apologies to Billy, Chris, Midge and Warren.

lyrics

She left a note in silver pen/and no apology/for what came next/and I'll pretend to understand/then try hard to give a damn/she had radium, I'm sure, and a plan for some atrocity/but I never got the call, never saw the warning/and it's easy now to say "what happens happens..."/when the bits of kids have gone/and where the bodies fell the birds still sing/in the trees we planted for remembering (bit of a clunky rhyme there, sorry).

Written and recorded by Phil Reynolds. However, there may be a fair case to answer for sharing ownership of the bassline...I'm open to negotiation on this one...um.

It had occurred to me that, for the first time, I had the songs and the technology to put a record together completely on my own. And I did. I could have got help, but there‘s a freedom in knowing exactly where the buck stops. ... more
